Here's the latest edition of MOC's Desktop Councilor, an email newsletter aimed at keeping you up- to-date on MOC activities and programs that impact your business. Thank you for your continued membership support.

Over the past several weeks, MOC has been very involved in testifying before the legislature and the Massachusetts Advanced Biofuels Task Force (MABTF) on Governor Patrick's legislative proposal to mandate biofuel/biodiesel for use as a blend-stock for home heating oil in Massachusetts, and in providing further industry insight to legislative leaders as energy legislation moves through the General Court.

MOC's position is as follows: The Council strongly supports the advancement of biofuel and biodeisel in Massachusetts as a blend with home heating oil, but is opposed to a statewide biofuel/biodiesel mandate at this time because of a number of economic, infrastructure, and industry and consumer concerns. MOC believes the state legislature should take the following approach: Await the final report from the MABTF, and then form a legislative study committee to fully examine all the elements of implementing a sound, workable biofuel/biodiesel energy strategy for the Commonwealth. MOC would embrace legislative language calling for retail home heating oil dealers to voluntarily offer biofuel blends of up to 10% by 2010 to their home heating oil customers.

Order forms are now available for the seven BioheatŪ marketing materials made available by the National Biodeisel board. Thanks to funding from the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA), the materials are free of charge (shipping not included). If you wish to download sales letters to go with the inserts visit, http://www.biodiesel.org/markets/hom/ . This site also contains a PowerPoint presentation designed to educate oilheat dealers thinking about selling BioheatŪ.

Now that everyone has settled into the winter season and the New Year, MOC will be holding a Board of Directors meeting to discuss the Council's 2008 agenda. The meeting will be on Tuesday, February 26th at the Westin Hotel in Waltham from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The main topics of discussion will include numerous pieces of legislation and the possible impacts the bills may have on the industry, seminars and workshops planned for '08, NORA programs, industry public relations efforts and anti-gas efforts. In addition to these topics Board Chairwoman, Sandra Farrell and MOC President, Michael Ferrante will be introducing new Board members, reviewing 2007 year-end financials and presenting MOC's member survey results.
Final edits are being made to MOC's 2008 Directory and member copies should be ready for mailing in the next couple of weeks. All member companies should receive at least one directory but if you wish to have additional copies, please contact the Council.

MOC would once again like to thank the 51 advertisers for their overwhelming amount of support this year. Production of the directory would not be possible without their contributions.
