Here's the latest edition of MOC's Desktop Councilor, an email newsletter aimed at keeping you up- to-date on MOC activities and programs that impact your business. Thank you for your continued membership support.

The Board of Directors of MOC has unanimously voted to endorse state legislation calling for the mandated use of renewable BioheatŪ in heating oil at a blend minimum of 2%. The Board comprised of retail and wholesale heating oil companies from across the state, threw their support behind the legislation last week at a meeting held in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Board believes the vote is a "good first step" in helping to revitalize the Oilheat industry, develop cleaner-burning fuels, reduce emissions to the environment and reduce dependency on foreign sources of energy.

Bioheat is clearly emerging as a clean burning fuel blend for Oilheat. It's available, it works in home heating systems and it has the potential to reshape the Oilheat industry in many positive ways. Now, with MOC's Board squarely behind a Bioheat mandate, MOC is taking the lead on educating the industry on this important new fuel. If you're a retail heating oil dealer or a wholesaler supplier in Massachusetts, you'll want to join us on either March 11th or March 13th from 2-4 p.m. for a comprehensive overview on Bioheat. Join us and learn more about:

  1. As a renewable fuel, Bioheat will allow dealers to sell a product that is considered environmentally friendly and will help combat natural gas' position as being a greener fuel.
  2. Politicians are pushing to improve green initiatives at the state and national level. Bioheat does fall under provisions of the recently passed renewable fuel standards signed into law by President Bush earlier this year.
  3. No modifications to existing equipment are needed so there is no added cost associated with serving Bioheat.
  4. Overall image of being a safe, renewable fuel that will reduce dependence on foreign oil and provide peace of mind.

A general overview of the Biodiesel industry and how Bioheat was developed will be discussed as well as overall industry support to eventually move to a 5% blend. Other topics to be discussed will be product availability, advantages of rack blending, pricing, serviceability and handling issues.

Important: Participation is limited to 95 people each day. Register today. How do you register? Go to massoilheat.org or follow one of the internet links below:

With the help of PriMedia, MOC has set two dates in May to hold the first of many Natural Gas Conversion Seminars. The goal of these seminars is to provide dealers and sales associates with information and statistics to more effectively fight against gas conversions. Topics discussed during the three hour training sessions will include calculating gas rates, comparing equipment efficiency and benefits, and emission ratings for both fuels.

The first session will be held on Thursday, May 8th at the Quincy Marriott and the second is on May 16th at the Danvers Sheraton. Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and will include a breakfast buffet and a mid-morning break. Registration forms for these events will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.
In addition to the gas seminars, MOC has scheduled two free Realty Breakfast events in May. The presentation, put on by PriMedia, educates Real Estate Agents about the attributes of oilheat and ways to help them sell oil heated homes. Dealers are encouraged to attend to help answer questions and form partnerships with agents in their area. On Wednesday, May 7th the seminar will be held at the Plymouth and South Shore Association of Realtors on 48 Schoosett Street in Pembroke, MA. On Thursday, May 15th an additional event will be at the Sheraton Ferncroft Resort on 50 Ferncroft Road in Danvers, MA. Registration is from 9 - 9:30 a.m., with the presentation running from approximately 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. To register for an event please follow the link below.
