Here's the latest edition of MOC's Desktop Councilor, an email newsletter aimed at keeping you up-to-date on MOC activities and programs that impact your business. Thank you for your continued membership support. Have a fun and safe 4th of July holiday!

On Friday June 29, MOC will be meeting with the state's Attorney General's office to discuss the letter MOC sent to AG Martha Coakley requesting immediate action on KeySpan's most recent marketing campaign which entices oil heat consumers to switch to natural gas based on false and misleading statements.

MOC's Michael Ferrante is optimistic that the meeting will be positive for the oil heat industry and the AG's office will pursue some type of action towards the KeySpan campaign. However, this meeting is simply an initial discussion of the issues at hand. MOC will keep members informed on any action that may take place.

Due to a full agenda at their regular monthly meeting earlier this month, the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations (BFPR) decided to address several possible modifications to 527 CMR 4.00 at their August meeting. (No BFPR meeting will be held in July.) The 527 CMR 4.00 Subcommittee, which is chaired by MOC's Michael Ferrante and includes two other industry representatives - David Bessette (Arlex Oil & NAOHSM) and Michael Markarian (NEFI) - has asked the BFPR to amend the code to either strengthen or clarify language on removal of fill and vent piping, the slope of indoor tanks, disposal of flue gases, chimney connectors, and clearances from combustibles.
Oilheat companies in Massachusetts will benefit from proposed changes to 527 CMR 8.00 - the Transportation of Flammable Liquids code. The BFPR will most likely adopt changes recommended recently by the CMR 8.00 Subcommittee that deal with a number of clarifications surrounding local permits and licensing for the storage of flammable and combustible liquids in cargo tanks. MOC was involved in the discussions with the Subcommittee.
In an ongoing effort to strengthen the industry's voice, MOC is always looking to grow its membership and spread the word about all the Council's accomplishments. MOC's Zahra Massicotte will be reaching out to the Board and MOC members for help in this effort. If you have any suggestions or a name of a company you think may be interested in joining, please email Zahra@massoilheat.org.
Speaking of new members, MOC would like to welcome World Fuel Services and area sales manager Al Skaparas of Auburn to the Council. To see a list of their services visit, http://www.wfscorp.com/wfscorp/index.jsp or check the MOC member business listings on the 'Members Only' page of the website.
It's never too early to start thinking about golf, especially when the MOC golf tournament is less than two months away. Join us on August 20th at the Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA. It's a day in the sun with your peers, followed by dinner and big ticket raffle prizes. Just fill out a registration form and mail or fax it back to MOC. Don't have a foursome?
