Here's the latest edition of MOC's Desktop Councilor, an email newsletter aimed at keeping you up-to-date on MOC activities and programs that impact your business. Thank you for your continued membership support.

MOC is still awaiting word from attorneys with the Consumer Protection Division of the Massachusetts Attorney General's office on an MOC written request that the AG investigate and possibly stop KeySpan's "Be Green, Win Green" campaign against Oilheat.

Meanwhile the July edition of Oilheating magazine featured a Special Report on MOC's efforts entitled "The KeySpan Offensive." In his monthly Commentary, the magazine's editor, Michael SanGiovanni, wrote, "If ever there was proof that the big utilities are bent on eliminating the oilheat industry, the ideal example would be KeySpan Energy Delivery's campaign," SanGiovanni commended MOC for its "cogent response that refutes these promotional claims."

As reported, MOC's Board of Directors has directed MOC's staff and lobbyist to pursue carefully crafted legislation to establish a modest assessment (50 points) on home heating oil gallons sold within Massachusetts to fund a program to replace aging and inefficient Oilheat equipment statewide with new Oilheat equipment. The Board's unanimous decision back in May came after they reviewed and debated several pieces of proposed state legislation calling for such an assessment. Currently, MOC's Michael Ferrante and lobbyist Ed O'Sullivan are working with legislature leaders and a group of energy efficiency advocates to develop language that will be acceptable to the industry and key legislators on Beacon Hill. Passage of this legislation is far from a done deal and more work needs to be done.
There are less than two weeks left to register for the 16th annual MOC golf tournament in Plymouth, MA on August 20th. Spaces are filling up fast, along with dibs on the prime rib dinner. Don't play golf? You can still join us for a delicious meal and enter the raffle contest. This year MOC has some of the best giveaways and prizes. Don't miss out! Mail or fax back your registration flyer before August 1st. The flyer is also available for download on the MOC home page.

"On behalf of our Board of Directors, I want to thank our sponsors for their amazing support," said MOC President Michael Ferrante. "All of us at MOC realize how often these companies are solicited for contributions throughout the year, and supporting every industry activity is very difficult. We thank our sponsors for seeing value in what we do for the industry."
