What are your peers in the retail Oilheat industry saying about the financial state of their businesses, customer contracts, wages and benefits for employees and a host of other important topics? The accounting firm of Gray, Gray & Gray (GG&G) has released the results of the firm's 16th annual Oilheat Industry Survey. Responses to the survey were obtained from retail fuel oil dealers throughout the U.S. via a secure web site.

"Despite a very difficult and confusing season, most dealers were positive about their results last year," says John Nardozzi, CPA, the GG&G partner who manages the firm's Energy Practice Group. Complete survey results are available by following the link below.

Last week dealers were able to share what was on their mind at two MOC regional meetings in Peabody and Auburn. In the first half of the meetings, MOC President, Michael Ferrante recapped the Council's activities over the past year and then opened the floor for discussion on questions and concerns for the upcoming season. Among the top points of discussion were fuel assistance, heating oil contracts, the Connecticut contract law, low sulfur and biofuels, underground tanks and temperature compensation.

Six more meetings are scheduled for Hyannis, Chelmsford, Pittsfield, Quincy, Natick and Seekonk over the next month. MOC staff will be using these meetings as a guide for setting an agenda in the '07-'08 winter season.

To register for the event closest to you, please follow the link below and fax or mail back the form.

Attorneys with the office of Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley have told MOC they are considering drafting a new law surrounding prepaid and capped price per gallon contracts similar to one enacted in Connecticut in 2005. MOC will be working with the AG's office as this proposal moves forward in 2008 and MOC's Board of Directors will provide feedback on the specifics of the law. Meanwhile, for an analysis of the Connecticut law and some recommendations on how to develop heating oil contract language for your company, follow the link below.

In addition, you can also access recommendations from attorney Barry Fogel with the firm Keegan Werlin LLP. Earlier this year, Barry provided heating oil contract recommendations to MOC members as well as retailers who attended the NEFI Energy Expo.
In conjunction with the dealer meetings, MOC will also be hosting four Realtor seminars. Prior to MOC lunch events in Springfield, Chelmsford and Seekonk, MOC will host free breakfast seminars from 9-11 a.m. to educate real estate professionals on the properties of oilheat. Dealers are encouraged to attend both events if their schedule permits. Please call an MOC staff member if you are interested in registering. For dates and details please follow the link to the MOC fall calendar or check out www.mocrealty.com.
With cold temperatures already in the air, tracking degree days is vital to stay on top of customer deliveries. If you haven't already, call MOC's free dial-in degree day service at 1-866-MASSOIL (1-866- 627-7645) to get your daily figures and forecast for 4 days ahead. Daily degree day updates will also be available shortly through a link on the MOC home page.
Speaking of the MOC home page, the MOC staff is currently working on a redesign of the Council's website to allow for easier access to all important industry information for your business and customers. The new site should be up and running over the next few weeks.
