Get Help With Your Heating Bill

If you're looking for direct assistance to help with your heating bills or energy needs this winter, you can turn to three different programs.

State Fuel Assistance

  • Administered through the state's Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD)
  • Direct funds to consumers to pay heating bills
  • Must apply through local Community Action Program (CAP) agencies
  • Call the Cold Relief Heat Line: 1-800-632-8175
  • MOC members & others deliver fuel for reduced margin to aid needy

Citizens Energy Oilheat Program

  • MOC helped create this program, and dealers deliver fuel for a small stipend
  • One time delivery of up to 100 gallons of heating oil at no cost
  • Call 1-888-Joe-4-Oil

Salvation Army Good Neighbor Fund

  • Funded through voluntary contributions
  • Direct funds to consumer to pay heating bills
  • In Eastern Massachusetts call: 1-800-334-3047
  • In Western Massachusetts call: 1-800-262-1320

Consumer Tips for Getting Through the Winter Season

  • Establish relationship with a full-service Oilheat dealer.
  • Have your heating system tuned as soon as possible by a state licensed oil burner technician.
  • Invest in a day-night programmable thermostat - you can save up to 10%
  • Look into fixed price or price cap programs
  • Set up a budget with your Oilheat dealer to help manage your home heating costs
